Where The Walking Palm Tree Takes Root
A space for food, memory, and the stories that connect us across borders.
Food has always been more than sustenance for me—it’s memory, movement, and connection.
I’m Sanaa, an author and itinerant storyteller, tracing the deep connections between food, culture, and identity. I’ve lived across Morocco, the U.S., the GCC, Mexico, the Caribbean, Serbia, and now Poland, carrying flavors with me and discovering new ones along the way.
At home, our interfaith Muslim-Jewish traditions come together over food—a language of love, memory, and belonging. Our meals are a mosaic of flavors, reflecting not just where we’ve been, but who we are. The dishes we prepare hold stories—of heritage, adaptation, and the ways food becomes a bridge between cultures.
📖 My upcoming book, The Walking Palm Tree, explores food as a bridge between places, people, and histories. Some dishes remind me of home, others take me somewhere unexpected—but all of them tell a story.
This Substack is where I’ll share those stories—the origins of dishes, personal reflections, and the ways food connects us beyond borders.
If you love food that tells a story, if you believe that recipes hold history, if you find yourself searching for the taste of home—this space is for you.
